Celebrated as one of the great mid-century American photographers, Brett Weston (1911-1993) is known for his distinctive approach to cityscapes, landscapes, and abstractions. Brett Weston is the son of influential photographer Edward Weston, who taught him to use a large-format camera. Weston's work initially focused on urban spaces in New York and San Francisco, but later shifted to abstract images of natural elements. Spanning more than fifty years, the prints in this show offer a broad view of the artist's career and demonstrate the High's strong holdings of post-war American photography. This exhibition is the result of a recent acquisition made possible through the generosity of Lucinda Bunnen, Christian Keesee, and the Brett Weston Archive.

This year, THE FENCE will be exhibited simultaneously in four locations: Brooklyn Bridge park, Brooklyn, NY; Rose F. Kennedy Greenway, Boston, MA; The Houston Center for Photography, Houston, TX, and on the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail. Don't miss this exhibition featuring over 700 feet of provocative photography.
ACP's acclaimed public art program typically features temporary projects in a variety of diverse locations throughout Atlanta. It is significant in its ability to reach beyond the audience of traditional arts venues and expand the way audiences consider lens-based media.

The year 2015 marks the fifty-year fight for human and civil rights in America. Yet, what was supposed to be a time of celebration turned into one of uprising across the nation. Half a century later, America is left with the question, "After Selma, where are we now?"
Photographer Joshua McFadden is a visual storyteller, whose interest in social justice advances human and civil rights in America through the narrative of his series, "After Selma". His work illuminates similarities between the civil rights movement of the 1960s and the demonstrations of the new millennium. McFadden's work depicts the passion, anger and sadness of recent events in America, while at the same time showing the hope, strength and unity of a nation.
The exhibition will display framed photographs of intimate moments from the 50th anniversary of the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. There will also be a night of projections and an open forum with the artist that will give a look into McFadden's multimedia work.

Jerry Park calls his SlowExposures satellite solo show "Slow Roads Tennessee" which will be featured at A Novel Experience in Zebulon through October. He set out to see if he could capture "lasting goodness" along state, county and local two-lanes in the Volunteer State. He uses a Holga $25 plastic film camera to give the images an ageless feel, with the occasional streak of light across the picture and dark, ill-focused corners. Jerry says that toward the end of his journey across every county in the state, several of the photos began to dictate their stories, or poems, or essays to him--he wrote them down "as best as I could" and includes them in the show. SlowExposures invites visitors to meet Jerry at a brunch reception in his honor on Saturday, September 19th from 10 am to noon at the bookstore, A Novel Experience in Zebulon.

Jackson Fine Art is pleased to exhibit new works by Masao Yamamoto and John Chiara throughout October. Yamamoto is known for his snapshot-sized monochromatic works, often presented in installations by the hundreds. His use of mixed media techniques and aged texturing recalls "memories dropping out of drawers." Recently, Yamamoto has been focusing on his Kawa=Flow series, emphasizing individual photographs as well as the collective entity.
San Francisco-based artist John Chiara combines photography and sculpture to create first-generation unique prints - without the use of film. Shooting with a handbuilt camera on a flatbed trailer, Chiara exposes and manipulates his images in situ. We're excited to bring Chiara's Mississippi photographs, taken over the course of one year in Coahoma County, MS, to the south.
Both exhibitions open with a reception and artist talk September 18-19 and will be on view throughout October as Atlanta Celebrates Photography.

The Callanwolde Fine Arts Center Gallery is pleased to present Atlanta: Changing Landscapes, an exhibition of photographs by Atlanta artist Rob Simmons.
Rob Simmons is an Atlanta based photographer who was born in Albany, Georgia. Until discovering photography, Simmons had always felt like an artist without a medium. Photography has given him an outlet through which to focus his artistic eye on the everyday aspects of life. Whether shooting landscapes, architecture, documentary portraiture or figures, he enjoys pushing the boundaries beyond the expected as he aims to capture the unguarded essence of his subjects. Simmons gravitates toward long exposure night shooting using only available light, a process which allows him to create dramatic photographic effects that reinterpret the subject in a way all his own. These striking images open the viewer's eyes to the art and beauty in the commonplace world around us.
General Admission: $5
