Transcendent
Collective One Gallery
Featuring work by: Hastings Huggins

Artist's Reception Oct 2, 7 - 10pm

Transcendent, a series of Final Works, are reflective, personal inventories of the past. They are re-experienced feelings of adolescent loss and trauma that were truths, once upon a time. Ironic discoveries, borne out of a sequential process make many of these works function as triggers. Triggers, as British science historian as alluded, that can change past perceptions and act as a stimulus for "new truths."

The build process for the Final Works is a sequential one. It begins with the creation of the chemograph, which, through a ballet of light exposure and chemical development, is allowed to mature. Particular chemographs are singled out and scanned at high resolutions to produce an archival document, which can then be optimized for further scrutiny, exploration and closer inspection. It is through the mining of these documents, using post-processing tools that the documents are decoded and become Final Works. Transcendent in their affect, many have become portals and at times harbors, which grant sputtering connections to the unconscious and to some of the most displaced memories.

Georgia Dispatch
Gallery 1600
Featuring work by: Alec Soth

Exhibition Oct 10 - Jan 20, 2016

In Summer 2014, the SCAD Museum of Art sponsored LBM Dispatch #7: Georgia, the seventh and final project of Alec Soth's ongoing Dispatch series (2011-2014) during a two-week, 2,400-mile excursion through rural and urban Georgia. SCAD is delighted to present the Southeast premiere of these new works during Atlanta Celebrates Photography.

The Dispatch series began in 2011 when Soth and writer Brad Zellar journeyed across Ohio masquerading as small-town newspaper beat reporters, covering day-to-day happenings along their trek. The exhibition will feature a selection of Soth's documentary photography from the Georgia series, creating a time-lapse portrait of the region.

This exhibition marks the conclusion of Soth and Zellar's Little Brown Mushroom (LBM) Dispatch and is curated by Aaron Levi Garvey, SCAD assistant curator of exhibitions.

The Mark of Time / Albumen and Palladium Prints by Timothy H. McCoy
Arnold Art Gallery
Featuring work by: Timothy H. McCoy

Artist's Reception Oct 11 2- 4pm

This exhibition of contemporary photographs references the historical and the psychological past. The points of departure are the vintage processes of gold-toned albumen printing and of palladium printing on translucent vellum.

The albumen portfolio, Long, Long Journey to the Sea, traces the course of a particle of water from its birth, falling as rain in the mountains, gathering in pools and flowing through waterfalls, rivers, and swamps, eventually emptying into the sea. The Journey begins in the Great Smoky Mountains and continues through the Appalachian Mountains to the Okefenokee Swamp, ending in the sea off Jekyll Island, GA. This journey is a powerful metaphor for the course of human life. Between birth and death, the watercourse way and the human path interact with both natural and man-made phenomena which alter their trajectories.

The palladium portfolio, Sanctuary, focuses on cultural remnants left behind. The symbolic content of these images is meant to be archetypal-presenting some archaic concern embedded in the human psyche. "Sanctuary" is one such concern, and it embodying hope and refuge in response to fear and loss. As examples of "sanctuary," these images feature ruins, sites of religious pilgrimage, and the refuge to be found in nature.

Reception of Atlanta Artist Center Photography Salon Show
Atlanta Artists Center

Artist's Reception Oct 11 4- 6pm

Atlanta Artists Center Photographic Celebration will exhibit the juried artworks of the Atlanta Artist Center's Photography Salon. This is a group of dedicated photographers who strive for studied artistic expression, while maintaining exacting technical excellence. Members regularly achieve juried placements and awards for photographic work that not only, "pushes the envelope," but helps define it. Photographs using traditional processes, new processes and experimental processes will be featured.

"We have found that the association with a group of outstanding artists in all media, such as those at the Atlanta Artists Center has broadened and nurtured our creativity and challenged our thinking about what is possible with photography," said H. Gay Allen, Founder and Chairman of the salon.

"My primary goal in forming and conducting the salon for the last 7/8 years was to enable photographers who have the technical skills required to produce fine art photography, grow their understanding and use of the principles of design. Our practice of art is much the same as that of other artists, we just use different tools.

The show was judged by Tony Casadonte, Gallery Director of Lumiere Fine Art Photography Gallery.
