With painstaking attention to composition, Kathryn Kolb finds images that resonate with the symmetries found within the fractal architecture of nature. Blending abstract design with details of "realness" she creates images that are perhaps more at home in the genre of painting than photography. Her goal is not so much to tell nature's story by illustrating scenes, but to reveal the universal forms that create meanings within scenes, which she discovers at times in the most ordinary places. Her keen observations and sense of enthusiasm come through with her use of design and lighting. The result is a sense of becoming engaged with nature's swirling, complex perfection that pervades her work in a subtle but addicting way. Kathryn's photographs in this show illustrate the geometric symmetry found in nature as well as the evolution of her photographic eye to more complex forms and compositional design patterns over time.

I have always been drawn to containers -- bottles, boxes, jars, vases, bowls -- even baskets and gourds. I have carved gourds, built dream boxes and spirit houses, collected assorted glass bottles and delighted in arranging them in new configurations. So what happens when you put a photograph in a bottle? A book? A box? Something precious is held more closely, protected, questioned and assigned valued. The collaboration innately invites the viewer to an intimate conversation. Like a good marriage, the two partners join to produce something new and unexpected. These pairings of photographs and containers evolved in a stream-of-consciousness process. They feel like my dreams, easy to decode on the exterior but with many possible layers of meaning. I invite you to the conversation, knowing that you bring your own container of ideas to the table. As you engage your imagination and become my partner, new thoughts and dreams will be transported into the container that is our world. In the end, they cannot be contained.

This documentary series by award-winning photographer and author Stephanie Calabrese reveals an intriguing look at life in Monroe, Georgia — a small southern town situated comfortably between Athens and Atlanta. It's a place of contrasts — old and new, white collar and blue collar. Home to more than 13,000 folks — about half black and half white. It lacks a fancy grocery store, street art, and a place to buy liquor; but it's abundant in spacious cotton mills, bibles, and bankers. Conservative. Its shades of gray and democrats can be counted on one hand.
This series of photographs preserves a moment in time for Monroe, the artist's hometown, through intriguing scenes that depict a rare beauty she's discovered along the edges of the town's extremes.
